Executive Board Announces Planned SIOP Dues Increase

At its January 22nd  meeting in Atlanta, SIOP’s Executive Board took action to implement a modest dues increase for the 2011 dues year (May 1, 2010 –April 30, 2011).

The increase would raise dues by $9 for Fellow, Member, Associate and International Affiliate member statuses and by $4.50 for Student Affiliate and all Retired member statuses. This change represents a 15 % increase from current dues and does not require a vote of the entire membership. (Dues increases more than 15% must be presented to the membership for a vote.) However, in accordance with Bylaws Article VIII, Section 2, members have 60 days to provide input to the Executive Board (via the SIOP Exchange) before a final vote is taken at the April Board meeting.

Disaster in Haiti: The Role of I-O Psychologists and SIOP

The situation in Haiti is undeniably catastrophic. Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital, was leveled by a huge earthquake January 12, 2010.  Its population was estimated at about 3 million before the quake; there is no way of knowing the final toll, but current mortality estimates are well over 45,000. Haiti’s government has ceased to function. Its infrastructure is devastated, thus confounding relief agencies that have tried to set up distribution centers. 

Traditional I-O skill sets are seemingly useless: no one needs tests validated, there is no management structure, there is no one to survey, and there are no classes to teach.

The Votes are In!

Members Turn Down Bylaws Amendment

The SIOP voting membership has spoken, and "Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology" (SIOP) will continue to be the Society’s name.

SIOP beat TSOP by a very narrow margin, with 500 ballots cast for a bylaws amendment to change the Society name to "The Society for Organizational Psychology" and 515 ballots cast against the bylaws amendment.
