The Industrial Organizational Psychologist (TIP)

The Industrial Organizational Psychologist (TIP) is the official quarterly publication of SIOP (Division 14 of APA). TIP provides original articles, news, reports, and noncommercial information related to the fundamental practice, science, and teaching issues in industrial and organizational psychology.Circulation is approximately 6000, which includes the membership of the Society (professional and student), public and corporate libraries, and individual subscribers. Topic: Event Experience: SHOW ME THE MONEY

By combining the fact that I am now a practitioner with yesterday’s DOES and POEMS discussion, I think I may have become hyper-critical of the nature of some of the presentations. Don’t get me wrong, I am as big a nerd as anyone at this conference- show me stats and tables and results all day, but I have found myself thinking in most of the presentations, “Why do I care about this?” And not in a negative way- earlier in the blog I said I felt like I had a mission: bring useful stuff back to my team so we can do our jobs better. But I feel like that’s not happening as much as I’d hoped.

What’s New in Technology-Enhanced Assessments

SIOP Members’ Book Discusses Assessment Trends, Techniques, and Challenges

As the workplace continues to adapt to new technologies, this book examines new ways to apply technology to talent assessment. The book uses case studies, such as video-based testing at U.S. Customs and Border Protection and promotional assessments at the FBI, to display the trends, techniques and challenges of technology-enhanced assessment. The newest addition to SIOP’s Professional Practice series, Technology-Enhanced Assessment of Talent is now available on the SIOP website! SIOP Fellows Nancy Tippins, senior vice president and managing principal at Valtera, and Seymour Adler, senior vice president of Aon Hewitt Consulting’s Talent Solutions Consulting practice, co-edited the book.

To be honest with all of you, I’ve never blogged about anything in my life. But I like trying new things so here we are- I’ll give it my best shot.

How does one make a value-added SIOP blog? No idea, but I’m going to try and provide good information, but make it bite-sized and simple– I’ll do my best to keep points short, just providing what an old professor of mine used to call “soundbites” as well as trying to find the applicable takeaway from the messages. Also, I’m not going to attempt to cover everything, just a few things from each day. You don’t have to read everything at once either… just grab a bite and go!
