7th Leading Edge Consortium Discusses Best Practices and New Research on Virtual Work

The 2011 Leading Edge Consortium (LEC), “The Virtual Workforce: Designing, Leading, and Optimizing,” brought out some of the best and brightest in the virtual work field October 14 and 15 at the historic Seelbach Hilton in Louisville, Kentucky!

Chaired by Kurt Kraiger, with Practice Chair Andrea Goldberg, Science Chair Lori Foster Thompson, and Research Chair Allen Kraut, the 2011 LEC was a weekend full of excellent speakers, informative presentations, and numerous opportunities to participate in the discussion of the virtual workforce.

Nominations for SIOP Fellowship Now Open!

The SIOP Fellow Status nomination process is now open online and ready for use. SIOP Members are invited to nominate a deserving I-O at http://www.siop.org/FellowsOnline/!

The deadline for SIOP Fellow nominations is November 1, 2011.

Fellow status is an honor bestowed upon SIOP Members and International Affiliates who have shown evidence of unusual and outstanding contributions or performance in I-O psychology.

SIOP Committee Seeks Bloggers  

Are you a SIOP member with an interesting take on research or application of I-O psychology? The SIOP Exchange is in need of new conversation starters!

The Electronic Communications Committee is looking for bloggers of all varieties to add to the content of SIOP’s official I-O blog. You don’t need to be a seasoned blogger; you just need to have something to say and the time to contribute on a regular basis—daily, weekly, monthly—that suits your commitment level. The committee is looking for bloggers in the following topic areas:

The SIOP Exchange crew would like to thank the blog's first guest blogger, Courtney Hunt, for her time Tuesday, October 4. Hunt answered questions and comments from several SIOP members all day as part of the SIOP Electronic Communications Committee's new "Guest Blogger" series.

In the Digital Era, is “Virtual Workforce” Redundant?

That’s the title of my keynote address at SIOP’s Leading Edge Consortium (LEC) in Louisville, Kentucky on October 14-15, 2011. In many respects, the question is redundant of course. Though certain jobs are still bound to a specific time and place, the rise of globalization, new digital technologies (both hardware and software) and knowledge workers has resulted in profound changes in the notions of what work is, as well as where and how it gets accomplished.
